I can say that it is not necessary to have read the first book to enjoy its successor -- though I suspect that would be the preferred course of action. Red Seas Under Red Skies is the second novel in the Gentlemen Bastard sequence by author Scott Lynch. The core format of the story remains the same. It is shamelessly inspired by classic caper movies. The Lies of Locke Lamora was a book that I thoroughly enjoyed but I was in no rush to read its sequel, Red Seas Under Red Skies, since many of the reviews I read about it were not complementary. Red Seas Under Red Skies Scott Lynch gripped our imagination with his first novel The Lies of Locke Lamora and he's here to do it again with book two of the Gentleman Bastard Sequence, Red Seas Under Red Skies. Perhaps you want an explanation for why my posting has been so sparse lately? Unfortunately, I would say at least half of this novel takes place on the high seas. I was happy to try the sequel, Red Seas Under Red Skies. I really, really don't enjoy nautical adventure stories. I learned another important lesson from Red Seas Under Red Skies. Or perhaps since it has always been erratic it is what you expect from me. I'm well aware that many of you have been eagerly awaiting this book review. Red Seas Under Red Skies is every bit as enjoyable as its predecessor The Lies of Locke Lamora.
